Council approves Synod move to LTSP
ELCA logo large no textThe Synod Council Nov. 19 authorized moving the Synod offices to the campus of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia in late 2008.

The undercroft of the Schaeffer-Ashmead Chapel (left) will be renovated into a 5400 square-foot office complex, as part of a redevelopment plan that will excavate around the chapel to open that corner of the campus as a gateway to the Mt. Airy community. The Synod will pay a maximum of $1.5 million from investments toward the project as advance rent for the space for 17 years.

"This will bring together partners in ways we never imagined," said Bishop Claire Burkat. Location of the Synod at the seminary will enable "the cross-pollenization of all the people we have coming through our doors - our ecumenical partners, the seminary's, the community. It will bless us both, and create appreciation for our interdependence."

Insurance discount a healthy idea

ELCA logo large no textThe ELCA Board of Pensions, which provides insurance and retirement plans for ELCA rostered leaders and other eligible congregation staff, is offering a 2% discount on 2008 health insurance premiums if 75% or more of the members and spouses receiving benefits in our synod complete a health risk assessment. Encourage your congregation's rostered leaders to check out this program at our website.

Pastors: Attend youth gatherings for free!

Research and experience show that when pastors affirm, lift up and support ministry with young people, the ministry is much more likely to effectively reach out to youth. With this in mind, pastors are invited to accompany their youth groups to two of our synodical youth ministry events for free. Registration fees will be waived for pastors registering with their youth group for the FLY senior high gathering Feb. 22-24 and for the Junior Youth Gathering in October.

Learn more on our website or contact Jessica McAlister at 484.805.1011 or via email.
Tanzania Companion Sunday Jan. 27

A working group of both bodies is developing resources to help congregations here and in our companion synod to truly worship together using common hymns, prayer petitions and sermon themes. More details coming soon!
