Liberty Lutheran Services and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia are sponsoring a Volunteer Disaster Chaplain Training Course on March 15-16 at the Seminary. This two-day training prepares faith leaders or spiritual care providers to volunteer as disaster chaplains in mass care settings or to serve as disaster chaplains within their house of worship, religious community or professional institution.

Co-sponsored by Liberty Lutheran Services and Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, this training is open to faith leaders of all faiths. Philadelphia participants who complete this certification can volunteer through SEPA VOAD faith-based partners. NDIN can also assist unaffiliated volunteers in finding disaster spiritual care volunteer opportunities in local communities across the United States. Emergency managers and disaster mental health professionals may take this course to develop their knowledge of disaster spiritual care best practices.

This course is highly recommended for Haitian clergy seeking specialized training to care for those impacted by the 1/12/10 earthquake in Haiti and for those traveling to Haiti to offer disaster spiritual care.
