Join the LDR ReadyChurch initiative
With the hurricane season in full swing and ongoing disaster responses in more than half of the U.S., there is no better time than now to think about how prepared (or not) we are for natural disasters. Disasters can happen at any time and place, often without warning, and it is vital for everyone to prepare ourselves for the possibility that a disaster could affect you.
September is National Preparedness Month, and Lutheran Disaster Response is challenging Lutherans everywhere to become a part of the “ReadyChurch” Initiative at http://www.ldr.org/ready . As Lutherans, we are “called to love and serve the neighbor” and being disaster prepared is a great way to do just that. We want all Lutherans to think about how they can be ready for natural disasters. Plus, being the “ReadyChurch” is quick and easy…
Be informed – Think about the types of natural disasters that your community might be particularly likely to experience.
Make your plan – Once you have thought about the types of disasters that are likely to affect your area, think about what you would do if one actually happened.
Build your kit – In the event of a disaster, you may need to be self-sufficient for several days. Put together a kit of supplies that can sustain you and your family until help is available.
Everything you need to participate in the “ReadyChurch” initiative can be found on the Lutheran Disaster Response Web site at http://www.ldr.org/ready . The site includes additional information about each of the three steps, links to helpful information from other organizations like the American Red Cross, and the downloadable “ReadyKit” list.
Will you join me and my family in becoming more disaster prepared? With your participation, Lutherans will be known as the “ReadyChurch.” Don’t delay… get READY today!
