Convocation focuses on aligning finances and faith
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod’s 2009 Bishop’s Convocation will address the anxieties of our troubled economic climate and the abundant life promised in Christ. “The Third Conversion: Head, Heart and Wallet,” is inspired by Martin Luther’s observation that Christians’ pocketbooks are converted after the mind and the heart.
“How often do we cling to our wallets, our money, our net worth even after we have surrendered our mind and heart to the Lord?” Bishop Burkat writes in her invitation to rostered leaders for the Nov. 18-20 convocation. “What better time to reflect on aligning our resources (heart, head and checkbook) with our faith practices and missional service?” the bishop writes. “This convocation may change your life, reduce your stress, and bless you as only the abundant life in Christ can.”
Convocation leaders are the Rev. Katie Day of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, Nathan Dungan of Share Save Spend, and Dr. David Lose of Luther Seminary. Registration cost is $115 by October 1, $ 150 October 2-20. Deadline is Oct. 20. Lodging/meals cost is $225/person, $300 for a single room. Scholarships are available.
